We have had for the past 3 years a Pileated Woodpecker living in our 3 acres of woods. Occasionally you will see it fly over your head. You can also hear it very well. They make a pretty loud irregular sound. Fortunately we have a lot trees in our woods and there are several old dead ones. They leave very large holes in the trees. I have not been able to get a picture yet but hopefully soon.
