Congratulations, Students! For almost 4 months you have watched the ever-changing Journey North maps based on what you and other citizen scientists report. The maps above are snapshot in time for today. How would you sum up the season? What factors might have influenced the "pace" of the 2009 spring from one week to the next?

Highlights: Anchorage NOP— FINALLY!
Robins have finally arrived in Anchorage, Alaska (61.22 N/-149.87 W):

"Well, well. Tonight as I pulled into my driveway, I saw 2 robins hopping across the neighbor's yard. Later, I could see one moving in and out of one of my tall spruce trees in the backyard. So, the robins really are here in Anchorage and settling in my back yard."

Soon our spotters in Anchorage will hear the familiar song of the robins staking out their territory.

More backyard fun was reported this week. Keep YOUR eyes open this summer for robin activity near your home.

Lexington, MA (42.45, -71.23)
Nesting is in full swing. The rains of the past 3 days have not slowed them down. However, one Robin was seen checking out an old lantern with an open side. Hope this helps to bring a better understanding of the world of birds. (May 7)

You can learn a lot about birds by observing them yourself. Happy Sighting!

Where's Thunder Bay?

And on May 8, a welcome sight on the north shore of the Great Lake, Superior!

"Finally!!!! Saw first robin this am eating on my front lawn."
