Leaving the North
Monarchs left this Iowa roost site on September 12 when the wind shifted to the north. According to observers, Observers often notice monarchs stacking up at a roost site waiting for to travel until the wind is right. [size roost varies in waves; coming and going/stack up until northerly winds.]
