"Our monarchs are just starting to arrive. We have about 200 so far, but soon our tree branches will be bending from the weight." Waubun, Minnesota (47N, -96W)

Please Report Your Monarch Sightings!

We will make four maps this fall by collecting the following observations:

All Monarch Sightings
This map shows when and where monarchs were present. All monarchs people report will appear on this map, whether a person sees one butterfly or thousands, whether the monarchs are migrating or not.

Overnight Roosts
Monarchs rest at overnight roosts at the end of each migration day. This map shows where large gatherings of resting butterflies were seen.

Peak Migration Events
Spectacular sightings—or the season's biggest waves of migration—are shown on this map. It shows when and where peak migration events occur.

Other Monarch Observations
This map shows miscellaneous observations. People report about monarchs they have raised indoors, or tagged and released, sightings of monarch eggs/larvae, etc. If an observation does not fit into the categories above, people report to this map.
