Crossing into Mexico
Monarchs cross into Mexico when they fly across the Rio Grande River. In Texas, the Rio Grande river forms the border between the United States and Mexico. The stretch of the river pictured below is near Eagle Pass, Texas. Many monarchs must cross here because it is the center of the Texas central flyway. "The monarchs are uniting three countries when they cross the Rio Grande," wrote Leticia Avendaño who lives on the Mexican side in Ciudad Acuña.
