Washington State was named after George Washington, the first President of the United States, and is the only U.S. state named after a president. The State of Washington is the 13th most populous of the 50 United States. The state consists of a variety of geographic areas. There are areas of numerous islands, deep fjords, bays, rainforests, mountain ranges, farmland, and a semi-arid basin.
