Map and Climate
Looking at the map below you will find Shaw nestled between three islands: Orcas, San Juan and Lopez. Originally occupied by Native Americans, these islands were "discovered" in 1791 by a Spanish explorer.
Located in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains, with an average rainfall of 19 to 29 inches, the San Juan Islands enjoy a temperate climate. Summertime high temperatures are around 70 °F (21 °C) while average wintertime lows are in the high thirties and low forties. Ocean temperatures range from 45 to 52 degrees depending on the season. |
