Dr. Lincoln Brower says tree trunks act like hot water bottles in the monarch's forest. Dr. Brower is trying to help us understand how the forest protects monarch butterflies by comparing the trees to something familiar, hot water bottles. He is using an analogy. (An analogy is a method of explaining something unfamiliar by comparing it to something that is familar.)
