How are people and monarchs using the forest? This is a satellite view of the edge of the El Rosario monarch butterfly sanctuary in Mexico. The small color photo is a picture of a monarch butterfly colony as seen from a helicopter. The butterflies make the trees look orange! Look carefully at the large red rectangle. It shows where the monarch colony was located on the day that the picture was taken. Try This! Look at the El Rosario monarch sanctuary on Google Maps. Zoom in for a close-up view of the monarch's forest. Then zoom out to see where people have cut the forest for their own uses. Scientists are concerned about deforestation (the clearing of a forest by people).
