In October 2003, whooping crane 309 followed an ultralight airplane from Florida to Wisconsin. But she never made it back to Wisconsin on her own! It's not that she never tried. Finally, 2 1/2 years later, on Friday, May 6, 2006, she returned along with her young buddy, crane 520. But they had a little help . . . See the latest migration maps for cranes 520 and 309.
