Back to this week's update

Flower Power

"Hummingbird was eating from a flower on our deck a few days ago. We had a frost last night so many of these flowering plants will be affected by the cold." —Frances from Davidsonville, Maryland.

Q: What kinds of flowers do hummingbirds depend upon and like? Which hummingbird favorites grow in your area? This week's observers saw hummingbirds on shrimp plant, Tecoma stans, Salvia "Phyllis Fancy," Cuphea "David Verity," pink phlox, Mexican sage, and more.

Q: What can you do when frost or drought kills flowers, but hungry hummers are still looking for food as they migrate?
