Journaling Questions: Do the Graphs Tell the Story?

You will need a volunteer partner for this activity. Choose someone who has not studied gray whale migration. First, ask what they know about gray whale migration. Record the information they already know. Then show them one of the graphs and give them 5 minutes to look. Next, ask them to describe in writing what they see. Also have them write down their questions.

  • Based on this experiment, do you think the gray whale migration graphs do a good job telling the story of migration?
  • Did your partner raise good questions? How would you improve the graphs, based on those questions?

Write about this experiment in your Gray Whale Migration Journal.
