Next message: Jake Rutherford: "Question Tulips 19#"
April 24, 2001
These are some photos of our tulip garden. I did not know how to send
them to you with the record of our blooming date. They show the result
of our experimental plantings.
Tulip front and Tulips front are in the front of the building, 15 feet
from the foundation. The back four in each group are the control group
at 7" depth. The four in the front are as follows: not stone in photo,
the four front ones are planted upside down; stone in the photo, the
four front ones are planted at a 10" depth. They are planted along a
boxed flower bed, and front means starting with the two closest to the
bottom of the picture.
Tulip Courtyard Sun and Tulip Courtyard Shade are two of our other
experiments. We thought Tulip Courtyard Shade would bloom last and
Tulip Courtyard Sun would bloom first. We don't know yet which will
bloom last, but TCS did not bloom first.
The tulips planted last year, next to our TCS group are in full bloom!
We don't know if you can use this material but it shows what happened to
our microclimate experiment. Last year's tulips planted in the
courtyard by the sunniest wall have bloomed and died. See last photo.
