When it rains the loon can only drink the water off the top of its beak.
While it is raining the loon can only drink freshwater from the surface
before it completely combines with the salt water. If the loon waits too
long to have a drink it will have no choice but to drink salt water. The
reason why it can drink salt water is because its body tissues are more
stronger than ours.
