Plastics

Since plastics can take between 200 to 400 years to degrade, they are a worthy candidate for recycling. Only 3% of plastic waste is currently recycled. Recycled plastics can be used to manufacture everything from clothing to lumber.

You can put the following measures into place to reduce the amount of plastics going into the landfill by 0.2 percent:

  • provide curbside recycling of plastic bottles and bags
  • recycle the plastic left at drop-off recycling dumpsters placed throughout the city
  • allow residents to drop off plastic at city recycling centers

These measures will cost $5 to $20 thousand dollars.
