The Day After the Election It was an exciting race. Today we report that Stephanie Higgins has won the mayor's office. According to our polls, Higgins and her opponent, Webster Fletcher, were in the lead at various times during the race. Toward the end they seemed to be in a dead heat, with Higgins pulling it out at the last minute. Although at 9:00 p.m. our exit polls showed that Higgins was the winner, Fletcher did not concede the race until 1:15 a.m. In his concession speech, Fletcher congratulated Higgins and also implied that he was not retiring from politics. Speculation is that he'll be back again making a run for the governor's seat. Polls taken this morning show that if the gubernatorial election were held today, Fletcher would have a good chance of winning.
