Discussion Question 1 - [Channel-talkmathhs] Teaching Math grades 9-12

From: O'Hares <ohares3@yahoo.com>
Date: Mon Apr 04 2005 - 06:35:32 EDT

OK Janet and anyone else out there listening...

I'll post a question from the class lesson 1 with my
response and I hope any and all will join the
conversation!

DQ1: From Session 1 - Questions to write and reflect
about: If you were asked by a colleague to explain the
value of the standards, what would you say?

Liz's Response: I would offer that the standards
provide a direct, non-passive approach to teaching
math. This helps to ensure that intructors teach math
applications so that students can investigate problems
with a direct approach. Studenta can then understand
the results in a way that provides learning and
further application in and out of the classroom.
