Applying Communication

You have just seen one application of communication in the classroom: group work. Read the following questions and answer one in light of the students and content you teach.


Questions to write and reflect about:
  • How would you plan a lesson to make sure that communication has the correct emphasis?
  • How would you incorporate writing about mathematics or student presentations into a lesson?
  • How would you encourage group work and student communication about mathematics?
  • How can you communicate about student errors in a way that encourages learning?
  • How would you know whether your students understood their solutions?
  • How would you evaluate the success of communication in your classroom?
Three ways to write and reflect:
  • Use pen and paper.
  • Use a word processor.
  • Use the form below.
