Ms. Hermida, a third-grade teacher in Tucson, Arizona, assigned a problem similar to the one you have just worked on. In the accompanying video segment, you can watch her students work on this problem.


As you watch, think about how the students approach the problem and how your own students would tackle this task. Notice the various types of communication that occur, including the types of questions asked by the teacher. What additional questions might you ask of your own students?
