Loop Quantum Gravity is a proposed theory of quantum gravity that explains how spacetime itself can arise from a grid of discrete loops of gravitational field lines called "spin networks." The image shown here is a pictorial representation of a stage in the evolution of spacetime according to this theory. The distinct colored regions indicate where and how much area exists at the moment in time this picture represents. (Unit: 3)
