The gravitational pull of the Sun and Moon on the Earth lead to tides that occur twice daily. The plot shows the water level (WL) at Port Townsend, WA, relative to mean lower low water (MLLW). NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, constantly monitors ocean water levels throughout the United States, providing a long-term record of the tides. (Unit: 3)
