I was also really excited about using Venn diagrams to find GCF and LCM and brought it up to the 6th grade teachers at a meeting. As I began explaining the model, a colleague shared that she teaches students to use the Venn diagrams (the Connected Math series which our school adopted introduces this model), and the organization of it makes more sense to her transition students (those needing extra support). So, go for it!

Students at my university learn this method in their elementary methods class and employ it regularly with a lot of success. Its visual nature helps students handle the definition more easily.

I really like the the idea of using the venn diagram to teach GCF. But, has anyone tried it with a group of special education students? iif so, how did it work?
