Hi Akhila:
I have read and started my paper on the Learning Classroom. I too feel like a traitor or alien in the public school system, because I think students need to use their brain, not calculators. If society wants to have a knowledgeable future it must stop relying on computers and calculators in the classrooms.
I have also read and studied eastern philosophy. I agree with Krishnamurti that there are too many influences on children that affect learning. I feel that if we do not take back our classrooms and teach the students the society we have will go down the tube with technology (some other persons work). There is a difference in teaching than in teaching to a class. I think the basic learning by book and pencil would be an excellent tool or skill to pass on to other educators.
The public schools are just the window of the past learner and the future of the blind learner. We need to balance the learning with life skills for tomorrow's student.
Stay in touch,
Kathy Estes
