Context: This drawing, located in the Canyon de Chelly in Arizona, presents the Navajo version of a Spanish expedition to suppress the Navajo. It is probably the Narbona expedition, which happened in 1805.

Purpose: To recount an attack on the Navajo by the Spanish and their guides the Utes, a plains tribe that had previously warred with the Navajo over land.
