Date: Sat Oct 22 2005 - 17:02:44 EDT Hi,
I haven't seen any emails going out, so I hope there isn't a problem on my end.
I and another member of this class, Marc Harvey, are working as a duo and have been checking out the videos.
Re: the Virginia Company
By 1600, Spain had established a colonial empire in the Americas that was proving highly profitable. After the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588, England had gained the confidence to attempt the venture of establishing a rival empire in the Americas. However, as witnessed by the primary documents of the initial adventures in America, this was not going to be an easy task.
Too bad that the Virginia Company didn't a) pick a better spot b) look into profit sharing c) make the initial investment of military as the Spaniards did and d) work to have a better barter system with the Native Americans as the French did.
Cheers,
Tom
