Greetings CPBers:
Is anyone else spending their summer watching these streaming broadcasts?
I'm viewing/journaling for both classes; # 5, "Student Diversity," would be helpful paired with a group chat/e-conversation.
I've discovreed that incorporating text, traditional and popular song lyrics, and poetry in my students' native languages, both pleases and honors them.
When doing Soto's Novio Boy, e.g., I always enlist the assistance of Spanish speakers.
In conjunction with the Favorite Poetry Project, we had a Korean translation of Dickenson's "I'm Nobody, Who Are You," and an Italian rendition as well.
Pointing out that we are not all the same opens the door for students to appreciate language not just for meaning, but for melody...
