Expanding Canon participants:

When I first started teaching in the 1970's bringing "realia" into the
classroom was indicative of attempting to get the students involved.
Today that "realia" has just become more sophisticated and more
pertinent to the student and his studies. Any time that a student
learns by real-life communication and relevant experiences then this
learning will be long-lasting. Interaction with the students sharing
their feelings, questions, reactions, etc heightens students'
involvement and ultimately provides them with various avenues for
learning.
