I was at a workshop that was put on by ACS that did stoichiometry using Lego
trucks. I don't remember the exact setup because I didn't pick that
particular activity to try myself, but the gist of it was to create so many
toy trucks out of the parts provided. Obviously, you are limited by the
number of each part. You need four wheels per truck, for instance.
The advantage here is that you still get to see the "limiting substance,"
the kids still get to have a fun activity, but nothing to worry about when
you're done. Plus you can use the parts again. I believe one of the
instructors told us that the kits for the trucks were about $5 apiece.
