After you register, you should download the Facilitator's Guide below. These instructions outline what you will do to run your workshop or course. (***NOTE: The registration period ended March 31st, 2008. Facilitators who registered before this date should complete the course with their group and then submit the attendance roster to us online before June 30th, 2008.)
* Indicates steps that you will also take if you are taking
the workshop or course alone. Steps without an * are only
for groups.
Create a meeting schedule
Most groups choose to meet once a week. At a typical
meeting, they would spend one hour viewing the video program
and a second hour completing the activities proscribed by
the print guide. (Lengths of the video and activity vary
by workshop/course.) Facilitators should, however, feel
free to design a meeting schedule that works best for their
group.
Talk it Up
Promote the workshops or courses by alerting your colleagues
and other local educators to this professional development
opportunity.
Contact Participants
Let participants know the time and place of the workshops
or courses. If the site is not in the participants' own
school, you may need to distribute directions on how to
get there, where to park, etc.
Reserve a Room
If you plan to watch direct broadcasts, then you'll need
a room with a television equipped to receive the satellite
signal. Think about other equipment you may need (i.e., VCR, LCD projector).
*Join a Discussion Group
Channel-Talk is
the general name for a group of email lists for particular
workshops and courses. Encourage participants to share
their
observations, feedback, and questions with other groups
across the country. Sign up prior to the first session.
*Graduate Credit
If you are interested in optional graduate credit, fill
out the Graduate
Credit registration forms.
Please note: Because it is very difficult to validate the number of sessions attended or the work completed by individuals working alone, Certificates of Participation will only be granted to those working in a group.
Distribute Materials
You'll need to photocopy the support materials
and distribute it to participants, preferably before the
first session.
Take Attendance
Please circulate the Attendance Roster during
your first session. Then, at the end of the workshop, fill
in the online
Attendance Roster. This information will allow us
to generate Certificates of Participation for those working
in groups. During the school year, all certificates will be mailed to the facilitator
for distribution. For summer workshops and courses, certificates will be mailed to the participants' homes.
