Tuning the GI DSR-4200B Model

Welcome to the Annenberg Channel. We distribute programming all day, every day, on SES Americom's AMC-3 (GE-3)- K 23 (H) located @ 87 degrees WL. The feed is Digicipher II using "Virtual Channel Map" #15 and channel 514.

Note that the serial number and unit address number of the DSR must be in the uplink computer prior to tuning in the Channel. This is a one-time step. If this has not been done, call 1-800-228-8030, extension 2.

Tuning Procedure:

  1. Note that the Channel utilizes a "horizontal" downlink signal. Connect antenna Low Noise Block downconverter (LNB) to the "H" input on the back panel.

  2. Using the Chaparral receiver or other antenna controller, move to satellite GE3 and optimize reception. Ensure antenna feed "Polarity" is a "horizontal" downlink.

Note: In the menus, the arrow or number keys can be used to select choices. The remote control "Select" button is used to make changes for all selections except as noted.

  3. It is necessary to perform an IRD "Factory Defaults Reset" first. Using the remote:

    • Press "Options". This will display the Options menu.
    • Press "3" (Customize Program Viewing)
    • Press "4" (Change Password)
    • Enter "Password" (996, unless it has been changed locally) and press the "Time" button on the remote. The "Installation" menu will be displayed.
    • Arrow down to "Factory Defaults Reset" and highlight.
    • Press the "Time" button on the remote. Note: Do not press "Select" for this function. The IRD will go dark, reset and is operational when channel 100 is displayed.

  4. Press "Options", "3" and "4" on the remote; "Password" (996). The Installation Menu will be displayed again.

    • Press "2" for Setup. This will display the choices.
    • Verify the following (or select if not set):
      • "Homing" = Off
      • "Video Format" = NTSC LNB
      • "Selection" = DPLNB

  5. Press "Go Back" to return to "Installation" menu.

  6. Press "3" for Manual Tune. This will display the choices.
  7. Set the following values using the remote keypad to "navigate" and enter numeric values:
    • "Polarity": Select H Horizontal
    • "Frequency Specification": Enter 1400.750
    • "Transport Stream ID": Verify 0-0 and "Disable" is selected (has a "dot").

Note: Signal strength should be observed on the "bar" graph. Signal strength of at least 6 may be required to acquire and maintain a signal lock.

An IRD "signal" light should display after a moment. Allow 90 seconds after "signal" acquisition for the channel map to load.

  8. Press "View" to clear the On Screen Display (OSD).

  9. Enter 514 on the remote. After a moment the IRD will acquire and output audio/ video.

  10. Press "Options", "3" and "1". Select "Banner" Off.

Select "6" to make site choices. It is recommended that "Audio Connections" be set to "TV" for all cases.

Press "View" to clear the On Screen Display.

You're ready to enjoy the Annenberg Channel!
