Tuning the DSR 406MN Model

Welcome to the Annenberg Channel. We distribute programming all day, every day, on SES Americom's AMC-3 (GE-3)- K 23 (H) located @ 87 degrees WL. The feed is Digicipher II using "Virtual Channel Map" #15 and channel 514.

Note that the serial number and unit address number of the DSR must be in the uplink computer prior to tuning in the Channel. This is a one-time step. If this has not been done, call 1-800-228-8030, extension 2.

The DSR-406 is a Digicipher II IRD capable of receiving Multiple Channels per Carrier (MCPC) and Single Channel per Carrier (SCPC) transmissions. However, firmware prior to Revision "BC" will not operate with the PBS-initiated channel map. This code upgrade can no longer be done via satellite.

Installations and Tuning:

  1. Determine your firmware version:
    • Press Options, 6-7-7-8-5 in sequence. The Diagnostics Data 'A' screen appears.

    • Check Line 3; if the numbers displayed are 000096 000096 000096 000096, or 000110 000110 000110 000110, the receiver will not receive the Annenberg Channel without a firmware upgrade.

    • If the numbers displayed are 000096 0000BC 0000BC 0000BC and 0000BC 0000BC 0000BC 0000BC, the firmware upgrade is not necessary.

    • If an upgrade is necessary, it must be completed before proceeding with the tuning instructions below.

  2. Using the Chaparral receiver or other antenna controller, move to satellite GE3 and optimize reception. Ensure antenna feed "Polarity" is a "horizontal" downlink.
  3. A factory-default reset is strongly recommended before continuing with the setup procedure. Using the remote:

    • Press the "Power" button.

    • Press "Options", then 6-7-7-8-6 in sequence. With "Confirm Reset" highlighted, press "Enter."

    • Allow 45 seconds for the reset function to conclude.

  4. Using the remote:

    • Press the 'Power' button.

    • Verify the following (or select if not set):
      • "Homing" = Off

      • Press 'Options, 6-0' (Advanced System Setup)

      • Press 1 for "Installation Type", highlight 'Business' and press 'Enter'. "Business" should now have a "check" mark.
  5. Press 'Options, 6-7-7-8 for "System Configuration."

    • Press '1'. "Manual Tune Frequency"

    • Highlight "Polarity" 'Left' and press 'Enter'.

    • Arrow down to highlight "Symbol Rate" "Auto".

    • Arrow left/right until '3.25' is displayed.

    • Arrow down to highlight "Coding Rate" "Auto".

    • Arrow left/ right until '3/4' is displayed.

    • Arrow down to highlight Frequency value. Enter 1400750. Check that 1400.750 is displayed.

  6. Arrow down to highlight Tune, press Enter.
  7. In a few seconds the front panel antenna icon should turn from red to green indicating the Digicipher signal is now acquired and the virtual channel map is loading. Allow 90 seconds for the channel map load to complete.

  8. Using the remote control, press the Exit button.
  9. Using the remote control, enter 514 to select the Annenberg Channel. The IRD will momentarily lose signal lock, re-acquire and should output audio and video.
  10. Complete the IRD's "Additional Features" user preferences. Using the remote control:
    • Press Options then 1 to select Viewing and Language Settings

    • Highlight User Choices and press 'Enter' to select. Recommended settings: 1=On, 2=English, 3=English, 4=Normal

  11. Using the remote control:

    • Press 'Go Back', and then '2' to select "Audio Settings."

    • Highlight User Choices and press 'Enter' to select. Recommended settings: 1=TV, 2=Stereo or mono, 3=Stereo or mono

You're ready to enjoy the Annenberg Channel!
