First, gather your entries from your Journals 1-4 and reread them, editing your original comments as desired. Highlight the questions that were most provocative or productive for you in thinking about connections. Would you like to add to what you have written? If so, go for it.
Here are some questions for your final journal.
Questions to write and reflect about:
- We have now studied the Communication, Problem Solving, Reasoning and Proof, Representation, and Connections Process Standards. How are these Standards connected? How do their connections support student learning?
- What one change in your classroom could you make to help students recognize connections among the mathematical topics they are studying? Could you make that change the next time you walk into your classroom? Why or why not?
- Imagine that a video team was to arrive tomorrow to tape your class as a study of connections in the mathematics classroom. What would the video show? What would you be proud of? What might you want to change?
- In terms of building on connections, as a teacher, where would you like to be in a year from now? How might you get there? How will you know when you're there?

Be sure to save what you have written before you navigate out of the journal section.
Thanks for writing in your journal. Please print out this last entry and add it to those for Journals 1-4.
As a final self-evaluation, you may now review the pretest that you completed at the end of Session 1, the introductory session. Congratulations -- you've now completed the session as well as the entire Teaching Math, 3-5, course.
