You've just observed an investigation involving patterns among square numbers and double numbers, which provided many opportunities for students to engage in reasoning and informal proof. Now we'd like you to write about your own classroom practice. Read the following questions and answer one in light of the students and content you teach.
Questions to write and reflect about:
- When is it appropriate to provide more directive guidance to students, and when is it beneficial for students to work independently?
- In the video, the students discuss a wide variety of observations related to the data table. How could you help your students turn their observations into conjectures and subsequently test their conjectures?
- How could you help your students learn from one another's conjectures and mathematical arguments?
