In this section, we will look at your own, rather than your students', approach to a few problems. To provide you with a problem-solving experience related to upper elementary mathematics concepts, we ask you to put aside your knowledge of how to perform division calculations. Even simple computation problems can be problem-solving experiences -- if you can't use familiar procedures to get the answers directly! As you work through the activity, pay attention to the methods you use to think about the problem, as well as any new insights you develop.
Working through problems like these can heighten your awareness of your own problem-solving approaches. This awareness can be beneficial as you guide students who are solving related problems and developing understanding of division.
