Now think about students in grades 6-8 and how this Platonic solids activity might work with them. What must students know and be comfortable with to get the most out of this activity? What are potential stumbling blocks for them?
Students must be able to recognize the number of vertices each platonic solid has,
and hopefully be able to see the pattern emerging from the chart they will derive.
It took the seasoned teachers quite awhile to figure out what figures would work, and
which wouldn't, and I could see students becoming frustrated. Although students like
working with their hands, it could become tedious when they get "stuck" on a tessellation.
