Forum: Looking at Learning... AgainTopic: Powerful DiscussionsTopic Posted by: M. Eveler, D. Pritchard, L. Sammon (evelerm@gw.kirkwood.k12.mo.us )Date Posted: Tue Mar 9 19:29:42 US/Eastern 1999 Topic Description: In the video Dr. Duckworth said engaging a mind in powerful discussion is the most basic skill. In our classrooms when we have discussions we notice some students are not engaged. We believe this to be a result of not being interested, having poor listening skills, or being too wrapped up in their own thinking. How do you distinguish between these behaviors? If no one is listening why are we having the discussion? How do we get the whole class involved?
