| Comments | Our family group of 5 young children, their two mothers, one father and grandmother and grandfather, caught and tagged 400 butterflies! There were thousands in the trees. Many hanging low enough that the 2 and 4 year olds could capture. Making great family memories here. . . Interesting to note that 6 of the ones we caught today were actually tagged by us in the same location yesterday. Perhaps the group is resting here waiting for the next big push.
Monarchs have been thick in the trees since August 25. In addition to today's taggging we have tagged 450 butterflies in the past week. The past 5 years we have not begun to tag until Labor Day weekend. Last night (8/30) we tagged 133 in one and one half hours . . . so many more roosting high in the trees. Awesome sight! |
