| Comments | Are they getting ready to go? I was up on top of Brockway Mountain (1300 feet above sea level) and was amazed to see hundreds of monarchs fueling up on knapweed. It was hot and sunny with temps near 90 and strong southern breezes. These were brightly colored with no wear and tear on them. Since they were at the northern tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula, I am wondering if they will soon start south? I also stopped to observe a similar number today (sunday 8-4) in Ironwood ( a few hundred miles south) feeding on a huge field of clover. Finally saw a few at the overlook wayside in Duluth. 2 were resting in the shade on trees. Hot and 95 again, strong south winds. |
