EventMonarch PEAK Migration
Date of Sighting10/07/00
CommentsThe wind started blowing from the north at a good clip early this morning, but the subtropical jetstream won out over the northern branch. The cold air got hung up on that barbed wire along I-10 and never made it. We had a shower of rain just before noon but never had to shut off the sprinklers or soaker hoses. The high was after midnight, 78 dF, and the low is current, 55 dF. Some places esp. along I-10 had over half an inch to an inch and a half, but not many such places. Half an inch will go farther now than two inches did a month ago. We had figured the weekend would be a "monarch wash out" but will have to keep our eyes open tomorrow. There had been a report of many (1000's) of monarchs passing overhead near Garland in Dallas County on Oct 6.
