CommentsWe have had the most fantastic sightings 9/29 thru today, 10/02/00. On Fri the 29 there were 200+ monarchs in our backyard (south Ft. Smith)-some feeding on the flowers in our "butterfly garden" some feeding on crepe myrtles and most just resting in the 47 large oak & hickory trees that are in mine & my neighbors' yards. On Sat, 9/30, it was wild! There were 800-1000 monarchs everywhere-fluttering in the light breezes, feeding, resting in the trees. On Sunday there were 200-300 and today there were approximately 150-200. When they leave they head west/southwest. Temperatures have been in the upper 80's each day. They are fancinating to watch, and we tried a crude experiment to see what colors there were attracted to or repulsed by. White & red shirts were not what they like but they did get close to my daughters wearing light pink and aqua blue. I also went kayaking on the Ark River (east Ft.
