| Comments | Finally, after going to Fort Foster in Kittery, Maine, every other day for several weeks, monarchs finally began to arrive on 9/16/00. I tagged 25 that day, and saw about 50 mostly feeding on goldenrod and marigolds. It was sunny, warm, and a brisk breeze.
The grounds keeper at Fort Foster park in Kittery, Maine stated that on 9/17/00 there was a constant presence of the monarchs, one or two passing him every couple of minutes. I returned to Fort Foster on 9/18/00. In an hour and a half I was able to tag 20 more for Monarch Watch. Interstingly, four of the monarchs I netted, including two together on one bush, were ones I had already tagged on 9/16. |
