| Comments | One student who lives near Lake Ontario saw too many monarchs to count in a field. Another student, the week before saw about 50 in a field. Usually, we just see them alone or in small groups of 2 - 3, so we suspect that these were migrating. As we are well along the shore from the peninsula in Michigan where we've been told that monarchs cross the Great Lakes in huge numbers, we doubt if they are from Canada. The Canadain shore closest to us is by Niagra Falls. The area there is very developed and would not seem to be a good jumping off place for crossing Lake Ontario so we wonder if they journey down the Canadian shore by Lake Erie and then cross. |
