EventMonarch Migration Sighting
Date of Sighting10/12/99
CommentsHundreds of Monarchs remain in Sterling City. The butterflies seem to be staying with us for a while. (Maybe because we have so many pecan trees locally?) Fewer new reports are coming in, but numbers remain the same each day (70+-) in the major 7 residences reporting Monarch "roosts" to the Girl Scout "Hot Line". Each of these residences has a good source of water, food & heavy cover of pecan trees. Temperatures have remained in the 80's & wind Southerly 10-15 mph. Girl Scouts are wondering if the next cold spell will send the butterflies on their way South.
