EventMonarch Migration Sighting
Date of Sighting10/07/99
Comments Our first Monarch sighting here in Amistad was October 7, a beautiful day with temperatures in the 70's. A light breeze was blowing from the southwest, and a large storm system was moving in rapidly from the northeast. As the setting sun was casting a golden glow across the landscape, we noticed about a dozen bright orange Monarch's landing on the sunflowers before making their way to roost in the cottonwood, elm, and large apricot trees for the night.
