| Comments | Hundreds of monarchs migrating, seen constantly all day. Weather sunny, upper 70's, southerly breeze 10=15 mph. Very few plants to nectar on...butterflies moving steadily south close to the ground. Very few seen roosting on anything. Harvey Cedars is on Long Beach Island off the NJ coast.
Many butterflies seen on the mainland also, on 9/24. There, they were nectaring heavily; hanging on in the fairly strong breeze.
They have been moving through both the mainland and barrier island for several days with no difference in density noted since Hurricaine Floyd. (back to IL after 9/26) |
