| Event | Monarch Migration Sighting |
| Date of Sighting | 09/06/99 |
| Comments | The monarch migration has just begun along the north shore of Lake Ontario from Toronto east to Presqu'ile. Typically, as one drives along our major expressway that follows the shoreline of Lake Ontario, we see monarchs soaring and gliding high above the traffic, and heading in a south-westerly direction.
As opposed to the report by Doris Stifel in Toledo, Ohio, who reports that her golden rod is just opening up, our golden rod is in full bloom. At Presqu'ile, over the past 5 days, I have found good numbers of larva in their 5th instar, and numbers of adults have emerged. Also, I suspect migrating monarchs are moving through the park, and can be seen following the shoreline of the peninsula. A cold front will be moving through tomorrow, and when it meets the humid air from the most recent U.S. hurricane, we will get rain. Over the past 5 days, I spent about 4 hours a day collecting monarchs and was able to tag and 500 monarchs. Don Davis Toronto, ON |
