| Comments | At the Penney's Mall in Manitowoc @ 2:00pm, my daughters and I observed 23 Monarch Butterflies in a 10 minute period, flying in a south-westerly direction. This area is well known to me as an area where the Monarchs tend to travel through in great numbers. As we drove north toward our home town, we observed 9 Monarches traveling south-west within 3 miles. After we reached hwy 310, we no longer observed any Monarchs for the remainder of our trip home.
I have long since known about a major pathway for the Monarch Butterflies as they proceeded south. They follow (or cross) Lake Michigan and I always see considerable numbers of Monarchs on a yearly basis in this area. The area is south of Hwy 310 (Two Rivers WI) through the most northern area of Manitowoc, WI. If you were to travel along Memorial Drive (along the lake), you would see many Monarchs as you drive.
