| Comments | "The ICE IS OUT. The Tanana River officially went out at 7:39 p.m. Alaska Standard Time!!" Read the news and view the photos and thanks to the Nenana Ice Classic in Nenana, Alaska. (note: The Nenana Ice Classic is an annual contest held in Alaska since 1917 to guess the exact time the Tanana River ice breaks up in the area of Nenana. A tripod is placed on the ice with a long tether to a clock on the shore. When the river ice begins its break-up the tripod will begin to move downriver and the tether pulls on the clock thereby stopping the clock.) |
