EventMonarch PEAK Migration
Date of Sighting09/25/04
CommentsI've just returned from Page County in Southwestern Iowa. I was happily surprised at the number of monarchs flying south. The ones I saw looked very good in color and wing form. Page, Union and Montgomery County all seemed to have great numbers. These monarchs were observed well away from the Interstate system on county roads.

A number of people in the Shenandoah (Page County), Iowa, area reported clustering in large numbers and have seen the clustering for about a week now. Unfortunately I didn't have my tagging stuff with me, but the sight of the large number of monarchs was very welcome. Especially after so few during the summer. I still maintain, Iowa had such a wet and cold spring, they flew right over us. But they are stopping by this fall! And being welcomed by many!
