EventMonarch PEAK Migration
Date of Sighting10/17/03
CommentsDriving the Causeway both ways and a couple of hours apart. 224 Monarchs around 2:00 p.m. on the southbound and 449 Monarchs around 5:15 p.m. on the northbound trip arriving back in Mandeville at 5:53 p.m I saw and noted different migration patterns in different areas of the Causeway. There were no Monarchs south of the old causeway turnaround going in either direction. It would seem that the Monarchs are using the bridge to a point, then cutting off across the water. There were definitely more on the northshore side of the bridge and they were moving directionaly towards the southwest.
